Material Jetting / Nanoparticle Jetting

ISO/ASTM Material Jetting family. In metal AM, nanoparticle-laden inks are jetted from print heads and dried. (Significantly less widespread than PBF or DED.)

Operating Principle & Process Flow

Operating Principle: An inkjet printhead jets a suspension of liquid and metal nanoparticles. The liquid evaporates immediately upon contact with the heated build plate.

Process Flow: Layer-by-layer evaporation of suspension ink -> Green part creation -> Sintering in furnace.

Technical Specifications

  • Energy Source: Heated build plate for evaporation, sintering furnace.
  • Feedstock / Material Feed: Cartridges with nanoparticle ink.
  • Typical Part Size: Very small (micro parts).
  • Build Rate: Low to medium.
  • Accuracy: Extremely high (often in the sub-micrometre range).
  • Surface Quality: Excellent (due to minute droplet size).

Applications & Materials

Typical Materials: Mostly stainless steels, silver, gold.

Typical Applications: Electronic components, antennas, micromechanics.

Industries: Electronics industry, research & academia.
