Maraging Steel 300 / 1.2709 in Conformal Tooling and Injection Molds

Technical guide for 18Ni300 Maraging Steel 1.2709: crack-free LPBF processing at ambient temperature, age hardening to 54 HRC, and conformal cooling molds.

Executive Summary & Key Engineering Takeaways Normative Status: Validated

Maraging Steel 1.2709 (18Ni300 / MS1) is the global benchmark for injection mold inserts featuring conformal cooling. With carbon kept below 0.03%, it eliminates cold cracking, allowing ambient-temperature LPBF printing. Intermetallic precipitation hardening at 490 deg C achieves 50 to 55 HRC with minimal dimensional change (<0.08%).

  • Kohlenstofffreies Martensitgefüge erlaubt rissfreien 3D-Druck ohne teure Hochtemperaturvorheizung.

Precipitation Hardening Mechanics (Martensitic Aging)

Application Limits: Plastic Tooling vs. Die Casting

Hier bleibt Warmarbeitsstahl 1.2343 erste Wahl.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
