A look inside the EBM machine

Yesterday we had the opportunity to film Arcam's Electron Beam Melting (EBM) process while it was in operation. In contrast to the laser process, EBM works in a high vacuum and at enormous process temperatures (often over 1000°C in the powder bed). As a result, the component is virtually annealed to reduce stress during printing. Very exciting technology for titanium aluminides!
